Indonesia to Accelerate Mandalika as Tourist Destination

Jakarta, IORA - Honorary Advicer to the Minister of Tourism , Indroyono Soesilo who is also a former coordinating minister for maritime affairs, said Indonesia needs to accelerate development of one of the country’s ten priority tourist destinations, Mandalika which is located in West Nusa Tenggara Province.

“The effort to accelerate the development of Mandalika can be made in synergy with the green economy and blue economy projects which are under the responsibilities of the Ministry of National Development Planning/the National Development Planning Agency and the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs,” Indroyono Soesilo said at an IORA Business Summit at the Jakarta Convention Center on Monday (March 6).

In his presentation on the occasion, according to Indroyono, Indonesian President Joko Widodo gives directives on the importance of exploring the possibility of grant from the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC)- the United States of America.

Indroyono also pointed out that Mandalika is also set as a special economic zone and IORA makes it a Blue Economy/Blue Growth program.

Mandalika is among Indonesia’s ten priority tourist destinations being promoted by the country including Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Morotai Island in North Maluku, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Mount Bromo in East Java, Pulau Seribu in Jakarta, Wakatobi national marine park in Southeast Sulawesi, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara where people can see giant lizard komodo, and Tanjung Kelayang beach in Bangka Belitung.
